Salient Points of Bharatiya Janata Party’s National Spokesperson Shri Guruprakash Paswan’s Media Address

Salient Points of Bharatiya Janata Party’s National Spokesperson Shri
Guruprakash Paswan’s Media Address
The Bharatiya Janata Party strongly condemns the mentality of West Bengal Chief
Minister Mamata Banerjee in casting doubt on the entire constitutional process of SIR,
intimidating BLOs and protecting infiltrators.
****************************
The Supreme Court has repeatedly clarified that the SIR is a defined procedure and falls
under the authority of the Election Commission of India. Yet, the manner in which
attempts are being made to create a certain environment goes against constitutional
propriety and ethical standards
****************************
BLOs are employees of the state government, yet they are being threatened by TMC
goons and politically protected criminals to disregard the directives of the Election
Commission
****************************
The institutional rape and murder of Dalit women by TMC goons in Sandeshkhali still
remains a wound in people’s minds. It appears that Mamata Banerjee is once again
attempting to disrupt the constitutional process and bring back those dark days
****************************
Bihar is a state whose political awareness and consciousness are considered exemplary
across the country. In Bihar, the SIR process was completed in an extremely peaceful and
smooth manner, and in 12 other states of the country, this process is also progressing in
the same calm and orderly way
****************************
As soon as the SIR process was announced in West Bengal, images began to emerge of a
large number of infiltrators fleeing the state. In areas like Kolkata, North, and South 24
Parganas, infiltrators had been turned into a vote bank due to the politics of
appeasement
****************************
If Mamata Banerjee believes that she can consider herself above the Constitution and the
rule of law, then that is simply not possible. Just like in Bihar, the people of the country
stand firmly with the constitutional process and the Election Commission, and the same
is expected in West Bengal as well

****************************
The same people who talk about the Constitution and claim to have taken an oath on
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution are the ones who insult that very
Constitution whenever it suits their political convenience
****************************
The government of West Bengal, the TMC government, and Mamata Banerjee’s
administration have continuously oppressed the Dalit, deprived, exploited and
marginalized communities of the state. The BJP stands firmly with West Bengal, with
the vision of Babasaheb Ambedkar, and with the Constitution
****************************
As a party committed to strong democratic and constitutional principles, the BJP will
ensure that the institutional criminal and hooligan elements of Mamata Banerjee’s party
do not create any obstacles in the SIR process
****************************
Bharatiya Janata Party’s national spokesperson Shri Guruprakash Paswan addressed a press
conference on Friday at the BJP’s central office in New Delhi. During the conference, Shri
Paswan strongly criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for casting doubt on
the entire SIR process, intimidating and threatening BLOs, and trying to protect infiltrators. He
said that when the SIR process in Bihar was completed in an extremely peaceful and orderly
manner and the same process is moving forward peacefully in 12 other states across the country,
then who is Mamata Banerjee to interfere in this constitutional process? Who is she to create
obstacles, and who is she to deprive ordinary citizens of their right to vote?
Shri Guruprakash Paswan highlighted that a game of “letter–letter” is going on in West Bengal
and doubts are being cast on a completely constitutional process. Just a few days ago, instead of
humbly accepting the outcome of the INDI alliance’s defeat in Bihar, they are continuously
spreading confusion. In this context, the lines of late Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji come to mind:
“There should be humility in victory and introspection in defeat.” The Supreme Court has not
once but several times made it clear that the SIR is a clear process, a historic process, a
constitutional process, and it is the authority of the Election Commission of India, which is
enshrined in Articles 324, 325 and 326 of the Constitution. Despite this, the kind of atmosphere
being created is extremely sad and unfortunate and is against constitutional decorum and
constitutional morality. It is painful to see that those who talk about the Constitution and claim
to take the oath of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution are the same people who insult that very
Constitution according to their political convenience, which is extremely worrying and
distressing.
Shri Paswan pointed out that the way West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is trying to
cast doubt over the entire process is extremely worrying. BLOs are employees of the state
government, but TMC goons and state-protected criminals are threatening them not to follow
the instructions of the Election Commission. If a government employee receives such threats,

what will be his mental state, and will he be able to discharge his constitutional duty? This is not
hard to understand. There are continuous reports that government-backed criminal elements in
West Bengal are intimidating and threatening BLOs, and this is nothing new. Because the kind
of violence that occurred on the streets of West Bengal in the name of “Khela Hobe” during the
previous election is still remembered. The institutional rape and murder of Dalit women by
TMC goons in Sandeshkhali still feels like a wound in people’s minds, and it appears that Mamata
Banerjee wants to bring back those days once again by disrupting the constitutional process
through her goons. While the entire nation stands firmly with the Election Commission, the
Constitution, and Babasaheb Ambedkar’s vision, Mamata Banerjee is casting doubt on the SIR,
even though she has no moral right to comment on the Election Commission. The country has
not forgotten how the Shah Commission declared Navin Chawla unfit for any public office, yet
before the 2009 general elections, he was appointed Chief Election Commissioner, someone who
was himself called the self-declared third son of Indira Gandhi. Everyone is aware of how the
system of appointing Election Commissioners functioned for a long time after T.N. Seshan’s
tenure. But the present government, ensuring transparency, has included the Leader of the
Opposition in the appointment process, and this is true constitutional morality. In Bihar, the
SIR process was completed in an extremely peaceful manner without any objection or
controversy. Therefore, the attempt to spread confusion in West Bengal is entirely politically
motivated, and the country understands this very well.
Shri Guruprakash noted that Bihar is a state whose political consciousness and awareness are
considered an example across the country. Fifty years ago, when Emergency was imposed in
India, the first strong voice of resistance arose from Bihar. The SIR process in Bihar was
completed in a very peaceful and smooth manner, and the same process is progressing peacefully
in 12 states of the country. In such a situation, the question being asked is: Who is Mamata
Banerjee to interfere in this constitutional process? Who is she to create obstacles, and who is she
to deprive ordinary citizens of their voting rights? These are the questions being raised today by
the people of West Bengal. Intimidating government employees and threatening them
institutionally cannot be justified. As soon as the SIR process was announced in West Bengal,
images of large numbers of infiltrators fleeing the state began to appear. This clearly proves that
due to appeasement politics, infiltrators were made a vote bank in areas like Kolkata, North and
South 24 Paraganas. This is direct vote-bank politics and extreme appeasement, which will not
be allowed to continue. Voting rights are given only to citizens of India, and therefore, an
infiltrator’s name cannot remain in the voter list just because it suits a political narrative. The
Constitution has its own provisions, its own procedures and its own spirit, and no individual is
above the law or the Constitution. If Mamata Banerjee believes she can place herself above
constitutional and legal authority, that is simply not possible. Just as the people of Bihar stood
firmly with the constitutional process and with the Election Commission, the same is expected
from the people of West Bengal. The Election Commission is urged to ensure that there is no
violation of constitutional norms and no disruption in the SIR process. If necessary, additional

forces should be deployed and administrative arrangements strengthened so that the rights of
citizens are not sacrificed at the altar of appeasement.
BJP spokesperson highlighted that the Government of West Bengal, the TMC government and
Mamata Banerjee’s government have continuously oppressed the Dalit, deprived, exploited and
suffering communities of the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party stands firmly with West Bengal,
with Babasaheb Ambedkar’s resolve, and with the Constitution. Constitutional purity and
constitutional dignity will not be allowed to be torn apart at any cost. Just as the SIR process is
running smoothly in 12 states, the Supreme Court and the constitutional machinery have
ensured that no disruption should take place in West Bengal either. No individual is above the
law or above the Constitution. The Election Commission must ensure that this process is
completed transparently and smoothly in West Bengal, just as it was done in Bihar. There is no
need for anyone to remain under any illusion, and if Mamata Banerjee believes that she can tear
apart or degrade the constitutional process through her cadre of goons, then such a situation will
not be allowed here. Mamata Banerjee’s record of jungle raj and violence is known to everyone.
The SIR process is neither new nor controversial; from 1952 to 1966 the same process was
adopted from time to time, and it is a process that strengthens voter-list purification and ensures
the fairness of elections. As a party with strong democratic and constitutional principles, the BJP
will ensure that the institutional criminal and goonda elements of Mamata Banerjee’s party
cannot create any obstruction in this process. In the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections,
no hindrance or roadblock will be allowed in the process of voting rights, voter-list preparation
and its purification. The BJP stands with full strength alongside the Constitution and the
constitutional institutions. The Bharatiya Janata Party, the citizens of the country and the people
of West Bengal together will ensure that the constitutional process runs in a fair and smooth
manner.
